Enhancement of CO<sub>2</sub>RR product formation on Cu-ZnO-based electrodes by varying ink formulation and post-treatment methods

Abstract Numerous catalysts have been reported with enhanced performance, e.g. longer lifetime and improved selectivity, for the electrochemical CO 2 reduction reaction (CO RR). Respectively little is, however, known about influence of electrode structuring pre-treatment on this catalytic layers. Thus, we herein report modification catalyst environment a Cu-ZnO-carbon black by variation ink composition subsequent treatment before performing RR. We furthermore provide insight into impact different solvents, ionomer, additives like pore forming agents used preparation as well post-treatment steps in terms pressing sintering generated electrodes RR performance. Although using same all electrodes, remarkable differences hydrophobicity, surface morphology, performance respect to stability product distribution were observed. Our study reveals critical role layer assembly aside from proper catalysts. show that parasitic hydrogen formation flooding behavior can be lowered C 2+ when operating optimized gas diffusion electrodes.
